Handspring Handheld PDA Reviews
HANDSPRING TREO 180 - This Handspring TREO 180 is a pocketsized Palm OS PDA organizer combined with a GSM cellular phone in one unit. It is also capable of accessing the Internet and sending/receiving E-mail messages. Use of the phone and Internet/E-Mail requires activation and connectivity to VoiceStream wireless communication service (not included). - Go Now!
HANDSPRING TREO 270 - I've owned my Treo for about a month, and really enjoy it. The speaker phone works well in quiet places, but it's difficult to hear on it in the car. The User Guide that comes with the product packaging is woefully limited, but the software version of the User Guide is much more detailed. I agree with other reviewers that the Internet loading is slow, and you must remember to remove the caches to get pages loaded freshly. I'd prefer to be able to manipulate the screen view order for the phone component of the Treo. I recommend downloading the Graffiti program, to have an option to the keyboard. Despite the foregoing, I really like my Treo a lot, but wonder, given other reviews, just how long the device will last problem-free. - Go Now!
HANDSPRING TREO 300 - The Handspring Treo 300 combines a PCS phone, Web browser, and Palm OS organizer into one compact device. The PCS phone offers four ways to make a call: dialing from the keypad, speed dialing, using the Instant Lookup feature, or checking the call history. With the press of a button, you can switch over to the speakerphone, conference call, or mute out your caller. In addition, the Treo 300 has 21 polyphonic ring tones to choose from. Key for this device is the constant connection to the enhanced Sprint Nationwide PCS Network, allowing you to send and receive email or access the Web using Blazer, the Treo’s award-winning browser, at any time. The PalmOS organizer has 16MB of memory and a fast 33mHz microprocessor and includes the classic applications—the PhoneBook, calendar, to-do list, memos. You can also run about 13,000 other applications using the PalmOS and transfer or backup data onto your desktop computer from the Treo 300 using HotSync. The full 4,000-color screen makes viewing and playing games a pleasure and the backlit keyboard makes it easy to work in a dark room. The Treo 300’s Lithium-Ion battery is rated for up to 2.5 hours of talk time and up to 150 hours’ standby time. This compact phone weighs in at 5.7 ounces and measures 4.4 by 2.8 by .82 inches. The Treo 300 comes with a metal stylus, a USB HotSync cable, a charging cable, a hands-free headset, and a CD-ROM featuring desktop synchronization software and a user guide. - Go Now!

HANDSPRING TREO 90 - The Handspring Treo 90 is a small, powerful Palm OS handheld computer with a built-in keyboard, full-color screen, and expansion slot for Secure Digital (SD) and MultiMediaCard (MMC) expansion cards. With 16 MB memory and a lightweight, compact design, the Treo 90 makes getting organized easy. At only 0.7 inches thick and 4 ounces, it's small enough to fit comfortably in any pocket. It also features a fast, 33 MHz processor and an internal rechargeable lithium-ion battery that can be charged using the included travel charger.

Entering data and navigating are now faster with the Treo's built-in QWERTY keyboard. You can look up a phone number, view your calendar, and switch applications easily with one hand. Or use two thumbs for fast typing of notes and e-mail. - Go Now!

HANDSPRING VISOR PLATINUM - One of Handspring's two new Visors running with the faster 33 MHz Motorola Dragonball VZ processor, the Visor Platinum offers a competitive option to the Palm V series. Although it doesn't sport a color display like its new sibling, the Visor Prism, the Platinum offers 16 shades of gray, outputting sharper graphics in games and applications. It also features 8 MB of memory like the Visor Deluxe, providing plenty of room for storing contacts, notes, and e-mails.

But the Visor Platinum's selling point is its new processor, which performs faster than other Visors or Palm handhelds (Handspring claims up to a 50 percent increase in speed). While we didn't put a radar gun to the Platinum, it certainly felt speedier than the Visor Deluxe--tapping on an application opened it almost instantaneously.

Using a USB cradle, our desktop synchronizations sped along nicely, usually completed in just a few seconds unless we were adding applications. Additionally, since the Platinum uses the Palm OS, most third-party programs written for Palm handhelds will work for the Platinum.

One difference between the Visor Platinum and the Palm V series that Handspring most likely won't boast about is its size. Where the sleek Palm V series sports a depth of only 0.4 inches, the Platinum retains the standard Visor form factor of 0.7 inches.

But when you've got the expandability that the Handspring's Springboard module slot offers--allowing you to add a digital camera, a cell phone, a Tiger Woods golf game, or an MP3 player--you don't need to quibble over slimness. Also, like other Visors, the Platinum features a built-in microphone (though you'll need to add a module, such as a voice recorder or the phone module, to use it).

If you're already a Palm or Handspring user, there may not be enough about the Platinum to sway you to pick up this new product. But if you're looking for the cutting edge of handheld speed, the Platinum is ready and raring to go. --J. Curtis - Go Now!
